From GamblersTelevision.com College Football Fiesta Bowl Ohio St Buckeyes versus Texas Longhorns (-8 ½) January 5th (8 ET)(FOX) Ohio St has not had good bowls the past two years losing to Florida 41-14 two years ago and 38-24 last year. Ohio St versus 2 BCS Bowl teams this season put up only 3 to USC and 6 to Penn St. Longhorn quarterback Colt McCoy had an outstanding season hitting on 77% of his passes for over 3400 yards and 32 TDs. McCoys accuracy will be key in this game as the Longhorns offense will move the ball effectively and maintain possession of the football. Note the game is being played in Glendale Arizona the home of the Arizona Cardinals so we will have a fast track which allows Texas to take full advantage of their speed and quickness. Terrelle Pryor has been inconsistent at quarterback for the Buckeyes and running back Beanie Wells has been hampered by injuries on the season. With the Longhorns explosive offense it will force Ohio St to play a game of comeback behind Pryor and that will not bode well for the Buckeyes. Ohio Sts defense will be on the field quite a bit in this game and will wear down giving us the cover in this one. Take Texas 8 ½. Selection: Texas 8 1/2

Home Burglary And Your Emotions

Many of us view our homes as our refuge and a safe place away from the workaday world and the traffic that must be dealt with in order to conduct our personal business.  And while we are away from this refuge, FBI statistics advise that every 15 seconds, or so, a burglary occurs in the United States.  If we extrapolate that data we are looking at about 240 burglaries every hour, or 5760 burglaries every 24 hours.

The FBI defines a burglary as a non-confrontational property crime that occurs when we are not at home.  And if you have ever experienced a burglary or, perhaps, you have walked  in to your home while one is in progress, you know the sick and overwhelming feeling of having been violated.

I experienced this very issue while in undergraduate school in Austin, Texas.  I had been out with friends for dinner at the local Mexican restaurant.  After having dinner and enjoying the company, each of us went home to begin the studies we  had to have

Mark Ingram wins the first Heisman Trophy in Alabama?s History

Mark Ingram received the Heisman Trophy in what has been the closest vote since the trophy was first awarded back in December 9th 1935. Runner up, Toby Gerhart, from Stanford University took second place by only 28 points and 5 first-place votes. The twenty two year-old sophomore from Alabama University was quite overwhelmed, and had to take a couple seconds to get it together before giving out his acceptance speech. The 5-10, 212 pound running back turned tearful during Saturday night’s award ceremony in New York City. The Heisman Memorial Trophy Award is given annually to the most outstanding collegiate football player each year. While it is not the only award given out to the “best player” of the year, none of the other awards are either as prestigious or receive as much media attention as the Heisman. Before Florida Gators’ Tim Tebow won his trophy in 2007, no other sophomore had ever received the prestigious award. But it seems like Tebow changed the tide

The Age of Horse Culture: American Indian Horsemanship

The Age of Horse Culture: American Indian Horsemanship

Before I begin, I would like to thank Donovin Sprague Hump, Black Hills State University Instructor, author and historian. Descendent of Chief Hump and the Crazy Horse Family. Also, Dave Reynolds for helping me to research this area and also contributing some of the historical literature used for this research.

The Conquistadors passed an ordinance, soon after they arrived in the Americas, prohibiting any Indian from riding a horse. They encouraged the Indians to believe that the horses devoured human flesh. In 1582 Antonio Espejo was still telling the Indians “The horses were ferocious…”.  However, it did not take the Indians long to realize that being men, like the Spaniards, they could also ride.

As the ranches grew, the need for vaqueros, cow-workers, was filled by mounting the Indian serfs. Sante Fe became the most prominent place for distribution of the Spanish Mustang into the North American landscape and to the Native Tribes. In

Big 12 Football Predictions 2010

Below, I have made my predictions on where I like the 12 members of the Big 12 conference to finish in their respective divisions. If you would like to see my predictions for college football’s other conferences, make sure you check out my 2010 college football predictions preview.

Big 12 North Predictions
1. Nebraska Cornhuskers – Nebraska appears to be on its way back to national prominence after coming oh so close to upsetting Texas in last year’s Big 12 championship game. The Huskers are off to the Big Ten in 2011, but until then they will terrorize the Big 12 with their ferocious defense.

2. Missouri Tigers – Mizzou expects to have an offense that will be able to challenge the highly touted Nebraska defense, but the Tigers must visit Lincoln this season, giving the Huskers the edge in the Big 12 North.

3. Kansas State Wildcats – Bill Snyder stepped right in preaching fundamentals, and it instantly made the Wildcats a

2010 Ncaa Basketball East Bracket Predictions

The East Region of the 2010 NCAA men’s basketball tournament features two very good teams in Kentucky and West Virginia. They are getting the bulk of the attention in March madness odds as online sportsbooks have Kentucky at 3-2 to win in East bracket predictions while West Virginia is 2-1. If things go according to form they would meet in the Elite Eight. Kentucky is the top seed and the most talented team in the region. They are very young though. They have two of the best young players in the country in John Wall and DeMarcus Cousins and an excellent head coach in John Calipari. The Wildcats will be looking for their 14th Final Four appearance and their first since 1998.

The NCAA men’s East bracket predictions are set up pretty well for them as they should handle East Tennessee State easily in the first round before facing the winner of Texas and Wake Forest in round two. West Virginia doesn’t have as much talent as Kentucky but they do have

4 of the Biggest Rivalries in the History of NCAA Division I Football

Apparently much of the media has jumped off the Texas Longhorns bandwagon. That’s fine, the last time that happened Mack Brown was polishing a brand new crystal football.

4 of the Biggest Rivalries in the History of NCAA Division I Football

What would college football be without rivalries? Rivalries can make regular season games seem like playoff games. Battling another school across the state border or within the state can be the biggest game of the season. The players get excited. The players get excited. The community gets excited! Here are some of the most noteworthy rivalries in NCAA football:

1. Florida Gators and Florida State Seminoles

These two teams have been battling in their intrastate rivalry, since 1958. Florida leads the series, 31-19-2. People sometimes refer to this competition as the “Sunshine Showdown” (referring to Florida’s nickname as the Sunshine State), or the “Governor’s Cup.” Adding to the thrill of the game, one or both of the schools’ football teams have had high national rankings the week of their meeting, since 1990. In fact, since Bobby Bowden began coaching Florida State in 1976, the series has been virtually deadlocked.

Florida vs Alabama game 2009

Florida vs Alabama game 2009

As you know there has been a big hype about the Florida vs Alabama game, people from all over the state will be watching in bars , at home , where ever there is a television that is available.

Florida vs Alabama game 2009

The Cornhuskers are 14-point underdogs to Texas in the Big 12 championship game,  but if they can pull the upset,  it would knock the Longhorns out of the BCS championship game and put Nebraska in the Fiesta Bowl.

That would leave voters in the USA Today coaches poll and Harris Interactive poll choosing among the Florida-Alabama loser,  No. 4 Texas Christian,  whose regular season is over,  and No. 5 Cincinnati,  provided the Bearcats beat Pitt,  to play the Florida-Alabama winner for the title. The composite of the six computer rankings makes up the other one-third of the standings formula and could be the ultimate determining factor.

“If Texas loses,  voters are going

As promised after my video for last year’s rose bowl, here is a video for Longhorn fans to get pumped about the upcoming football season. Hook ‘em. For best quality, watch on a computer rather than a mobile phone. The song used is Six Days at the Bottom of the Ocean by Explosions in the Sky.

Deerpark’s Tom Patterson Lauds Youth Groups Helping To Build Community

Tom Patterson of Deerpark Middle School knows that the first years of adolescence can be a trying time. Middle school students, says Tom Patterson of Deerpark, are beginning to come to terms with their own individuality. Adolescent youth tend to be solitary or to gather in small cliques that do not blend often. It is easy for young teenagers to feel like they do not belong. Consequently, they tend towards isolation. Tom Patterson of Deerpark Middle School explains how this emotional environment makes effective team-building a real challenge.

Deerpark’s Tom Patterson notes it is crucial for young people at this age to learn to work together as a team. Tom Patterson says that participating in music groups like the Deerpark Middle School Band can be a very effective form of team-building experiences.  When young teens create music together, says Tom Patterson of Deerpark, powerful and long-standing connections can be forged. Tom Patterson notes how the
